Who doesn’t love to throw herbs into their foods and drinks? With one quick pinch, herbs can completely transform and flavor whatever you’re diving into. However, did you know that herbs are actually healthy for you? That’s right, they are known to lower high  blood pressure. Here at Gracious Gardening, we even compiled a list of five of the best herbs that lower blood pressure:

1. Cinnamon

Whether you incorporate cinnamon in your breakfast cereal, oatmeal or coffee, this herb will benefit you tremendously. If you ingest some cinnamon every day, this will really bring your blood pressure down, especially if you already suffer from diabetes.

2. Cardamom

Cardamom seeds or powder, which hail from India, are a great ingredient to put into your diet because it has been shown to reduce blood pressure as well. In fact, one study showed that participants who were given cardamom every day for a few months saw huge reductions in their blood pressure numbers. 

3. Garlic

Then, there is garlic. This herb may have a strong smell and taste, but it does way more than just leave you with smelly breath. Since garlic causes your blood vessels to relax and dilate, it has been shown over and over again to lower your blood pressure. With this herb in your system, your blood will be able to flow around more freely, once again bringing down your blood’s pressure.

4. Hawthorn

For thousands of years, hawthorn has been used in traditional Chinese medicines to reduce high blood pressure. The great thing about this herb in particular is that it does not only aid with blood pressure, but it also helps with a bevy of problems. In fact, it is fantastic for cardiovascular health, preventing clots from forming and increasing blood circulation around your body.  Hawthorn can be taken as a pill, liquid extract or even as a tea.

5. Celery Seeds

In China, celery seeds have been long used to help lower high pressure. Whether you put them in stews, soups or main entrees, this herb has been proven to be effective. That’s because studies have shown that the seeds, or even the juice of the plant, work as a diuretic to get your blood pressure down.
